UTLD 50: aka Groundhog Day

Published by Nick Wishart on 02/08/14

2014 Lakeland 50 was absolutely what I expected it to be and completely what I didn’t expect it to be, all rolled into one rollercoaster ride. And that just about sums this race up. If you think you can predict, or control 100% how it’s going to go, then you need to think again. That’s what makes it so difficult and so rewarding and I think, what brings runners back, year after year, regardless of previous results, finished or not.

Lakeland 100 - Never Surrender

I consider myself pretty resilient both mentally and physically, but I can't test that theory sat at a desk all day. I have to rely upon my own means to take myself out of my comfort zone, otherwise I get a little bored.

Inov-8 Ultra 290 shoe; first impressions

Published by Nick Wishart on 18/07/14

When I started focusing on off road running, I discovered Inov-8 and they quickly became my shoe brand of choice. Shoe countback totals around 8 pairs so far I think. Lightweight, low drop and super grippy are the main benefits for me. So in bringing out a more ‘conventional’ type shoe, what will the compromise be? These are my first impressions of the new Ultra 290 having done one 11.5 mile run in them.

Up The Beast

2pm Tuesday afternoon and I see that it's 'The Beast' tonight. I'd said several months earlier that I'd enter it but then it was buried under a thousand other posts on the forum. Tied legs from the day befores hard 25 mile fell run didnt dampen my enthusiasm to give it a bash. I think I was still suffering the none competivness blues from Saturday!

So it was, four brave Spartans gathered the courage to face the Beast.

Sitting down to write up a great weekend of running, it struck me that the Sandstone Trail defines my journey into the world of long distance trail running over the past three years since the Delamere Spartans was formed.

Excalibur Marathon 2014

I didn’t enter this race last year as it unfortunately clashed with other events. This years race was exactly 2 weeks after the Highland Fling Ultra 53, so no excuses not to have a go really……

A Far Flung Fling Adventure

My second 50 is in the bag, allowing inevitable comparisons to be made between the two. This blog explores my thoughts on what went well and why and so is my personal reflection rather than a race report, which may or may not be of use to anyone else but really helps me when I reflect in a few months!

3, 2, 1 - Go, lad!

It was the 60th anniversary of the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks race, and my 100th race, so it was a special occasion
