|Oh my goodness, it has been so long since Time Trials were a thing in Spartans. Now returning, for good or for evil.

For those of you who've not done this, it's not exactly a race (other than against yourself). And yes, the dank photo is wildly optimistic, it will be dark and cold.

In a nutshell...

We take it easy to the start of the TT track (opposite Whitefield CP, lakeside).

Those who feel they are low in speed or confidence should set off first. The faster you are, the later you leave (all up to you).

Smash it round Blakemere Moss twice. You're setting your own goals, so no expectations, no excuses for non-attendance, just get involved! We all cheer each other along and feel elated rather than glum because we chickened out and watched telly instead. There is joy to be found in finding courage to TT on a cold November night.

Keep your own time in minutes and seconds (don't gimme none of your millisecond bulls**t). I'll take those times from you and compile a table.

In a month or so, we do exactly the same again having got something to benchmark against. You do the running, I'll do the stats. You shave maybe several seconds off your original attempt and we will all rejoice like we have just parted the oceans and waded straight thru.

Bring your winter kit but we'll probably be able to ditch it at the start if there's a non-running marshal - there's your get out ;-)

As the bloke in a shed across the road from my childhood mate's house used to say (we understood he was pumping iron): "NO PAIN, NO GAIN" Or just "NO PAIN" for short. Neither actually true in our case... but "Probably some pain and hopefully some gain, but not necessarily" is not all that catchy.
