A record Spartan turnout for this race saw six of us converge on a lovely sunny field on the Western flank of Moel Famau, gazing up to rising hillsides covered in a full coat of summer foliage.
After an initial climb the course took in a speedy descent across open grassland before turning back up hill along some seldom used sheep tracks and through an area of thick bracken, finally emerging onto the Offas Dyke path. This section afforded some great views of the Vale of Clwyd for those with enough time, and breath, to look before an exciting final descent across open heath and downhill sprint to the finish line.
Alex M (unofficial Spartan) finished in 8th, continuing his spree of top 10 and first in age category wins. Mike T masquerading as Pickled Riders finished just outside the top 10 in 12th. Paul C led the official Spartans home and was 2nd MV60. This after declaring feeling “soparofic” on the way to the race. Natasha C put in another sterling effort, powering past Rich M (Tigger) on the 2nd big climb up to Offa’s Dyke. Great effort from Ian M as well.
A fantastic evening had by all.
